136 Non-School Sponsored Contests for Students

Criteria (voted November 14, 1988)

  1. Recipients must have been in attendance at a local public high school for at least two years.

  2. Recipients must give evidence of furthering their education at a four year degree-granting school.

  3. Recipients, after having completed the application form, must be nominated by the Scholarship Committee of each high school faculty.

  4. Recipients will include those students at each high school who have demonstrated the highest level of academic excellence.  Students already accepting a full scholarship will not be eligible for the Scovell assistance.

  5. The School Scholarship Committee nominations will be reported to the Curriculum and Instruction Committee of the School Board for review before the second Monday in May.

Amount Available

Funds available vary from year to year, depending upon the income from Scovell Trust forwarded by the Trust agent for use by the School Board.

Times of Awards

Announcements of awards are made in June, generally at the annual awards assembly of each school.

Establishment of Criteria

The will of Clinton H. Scovell stipulates that the awards will be made “upon such terms and provisions as the School Committee shall from time to time determine.”
