117 Diversity Policy

The Manchester School District, recognizing and respecting the diversity and needs of its students and their families, shall foster an organizational and educational climate that maximizes the benefits of Manchester’s diversity as part of a global society.

The school district’s concept of diversity shall encompass nationality, ethnicity, gender, ideological perspective, socioeconomic status, age, religion, sexual orientation, ability/disability, language, educational level, and occupational background.

Academic success is achieved when:

  • Students experience a safe, nurturing, and respectful environment;

  • Students learn how to interact with others who reflect the diversity of contemporary American society;

  • Students are afforded equitable opportunities to access curriculum and support;

  • Students are provided access to advanced academic opportunities;

  • Teachers are hired from diverse backgrounds;

  • Students are provided with learning materials that reflect their own diverse perspectives;

  • Teachers understand, respect, and respond to diverse perspectives; and

  • All families feel welcome in the schools

The District shall strive to attain the goals set forth in Foundations 101: District Equity Policy when fostering a diverse and welcoming environment in every school.
