End of the Year - Grade K

posted Jun 11, 2018, 7:27 PM by Kelly Jobel   [ updated Jun 11, 2018, 7:27 PM ]

Parker-Varney School will not be having a formal graduation for kindergarten.  However, there are several end of the year events such as field day that parents can volunteer to participate in to celebrate the end of the school year with their child.   Individual classroom teachers may also decide to do an end of the year learning celebration with their classrooms and will be sending that information out soon.

Summer Learning Academy - Free

posted Jun 1, 2018, 7:14 AM by Kelly Jobel

Dear Families,

This summer, our school district will offer students, free of charge, a fun, exciting, and academic approach to learning called Summer Learning Academy. Make no mistake about it, not only will our summer program be FUN for kids, it will also provide an opportunity for students to experience over 48 hours of academics during the summer months. This academic time will give students the chance to review and apply previously learned skills and knowledge as well as prepare for the school year ahead. Summer Learning Academy’s extraordinary educational goals are comprised of academic courses with hands-on instruction centered in reading, language arts, and math. While the academic courses will be relaxed in format—no homework or tests for grades—Summer Learning Academy offer hands-on exploration and discovery with high-interest activities that will engage students in fun ways . . . they may not even realize they are learning! Topics for the four weeks include Bridges and Buildings, Around the Worlds, Jungle and Oceans. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who will be entering kindergarten in fall 2018 through grade 4, I strongly encourage you to consider enrolling your child in Summer Learning Academy. We are hopeful that when these young students meet their teachers, fellow students, and our staff during the summer, they are eager to return in the fall and find that “first day of school” experience to be a positive one. Who should attend Summer Learning Academy? Everyone. Simply put, it’s good for kids. More information is attached.   You’ll be glad you did!

PBL at Work

posted Apr 7, 2018, 4:22 AM by Kelly Jobel

Problem: Students wanted cleaner water machines so that students and staff will drink more water and stay healthy.
Essential Question(s):
How can the water at PV be accessed in a more sanitary way?
How can we increase water consumption among students and staff?
How will this solution make PV greener?
Can our solution make refilling bottles go quicker?

Students researched the problem and determined a water bottle filling station with a fountain attached will help keep every healthy and they won't have to use the mouth piece to fill their water bottles up! They decided to have a Walk-A-Thon and raised the funds needed for this project.

Results: A water bottle filling station was installed near their classrooms and students are filling their water bottles quicker and drinking more water. #PANTHERPRIDE #MAKECHANGEHAPPEN #TOGETHERWECANMAKEADIFFERENCE
